Book of the Future is an Applied Futurism practice, helping people and organisations to see, share and respond to a clearer vision of tomorrow. The business was launched in 2012 by Tom Cheesewright, who has been writing, speaking and broadcasting about technology and the future since 2006. Tom continues to lead the business supported by a small team from our Manchester (UK) HQ and by associates nationwide.
Book of the Future is a trading name of IO Communications, a limited company registered in the UK, reference number 5472354 and registered for VAT, reference number 860 9340 19.
The Book of the Future brand and website are the product of a number of people’s contributions, for which we are enormously grateful.
The Book of the Future logo, colours, fonts and general feel are the product of the fantastic design skills and marketing mind of Stewart Aitken. Stewart is also responsible for coming up with the phrase ‘Applied Futurism’ to describe what we do.
The latest iteration of the website was designed by Jack Carpenter of the Manchester Web Design Agency, though he can’t be held responsible for the questionable implementation of Bootstrap in which his designs are now rendered.

You may be wondering where the book is? The Book of the Future?
I’m afraid there isn’t one. At least not one that I’ve produced.
This business started as a blog. A blog named after a 1979 book. A book that was in part responsible for inspiring my interest in technology and the future. The Usborne Book of the Future, first published in 1979, which my mum bought me from a book fair in Ealing when I was about three years old.
The blog started in 2006. Blogging was all the rage. And I found that this domain was available. In the absence of a new Book of the Future for more than two decades, I started to write one. Albeit in a digital form, rather than print.
The target audience was rather different: the original Book of the Future was for children. My audience ranged all over the place in the early years. The blog was an outlet for companion pieces to my TV and radio appearances. For opinion pieces (OK, rants). And posts about some of my geeky projects.
Since the blog became a business in 2012, things have been a little more focused. On foresight, strategy and organisational agility.
If I were to write a book today, I’d like to write one about these things. But I’d also like to tackle a new children’s book about the future.
Until a publisher tells me they want to publish it though, or I find the time to produce one for self-publishing, I’ll stick to blogging.

A return after 30 minutes will count as a new visit, but a returning visitor.|

It is not used in most sites but is set to enable interoperability with the older version of Google Analytics code known as Urchin. In this older versions this was used in combination with the __utmb cookie to identify new sessions/visits for returning visitors. When used by Google Analytics this is always a Session cookie which is destroyed when the user closes their browser.|

This cookie identifies the source of traffic to the site - so Google Analytics can tell site owners where visitors came from when arriving on the site.
